Raleigh Centers for Active Adults

Raleigh, NC

Client City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation

Raleigh's first city-owned senior centers, with locations at Whitaker Mill Road and Millbrook Exchange Park, are activity hubs for Seniors across the region. Several design strategies were employed in both centers to ensure that the facilities were tailored to the unique requirements of their vibrant clientele. Features include daylit interior spaces with colors and glass selected to reduce glare and easy to navigate floor plans.

The Five Points Center located at Whitaker Mill Road was specifically designed to mesh with an adjacent historic building and achieved LEED Gold certification through the U.S. Green Building Council. Included in this 20,000 square foot center is a commercial kitchen for serving Meals on Wheels patrons, a large multi-purpose area, and fitness, art, and game rooms. The 4,400 square foot Anne Gordon Center at Millbrook Exchange Park includes large and small multi-purpose rooms, a community kitchenette, as well as office and support areas.
