Raleigh Senior Centers

Raleigh, NC

Client City of Raleigh Department of Parks and Recreation

Raleigh's first city-owned senior centers, with locations at Whitaker Mill Road and Millbrook Exchange Park, will be activity hubs for Senior across the region. Several design strategies have been employed in both senior centers to ensure that the facilities are tailored to the unique requirements of their vibrant clientele. Features include daylit interior spaces with colors and glass selected to reduce glare, easy to navigate floor plans, and floor finishes that reduce tripping hazards.

The Whitaker Mill Road center was specifically designed to mesh with an adjacent historic building and will be pursing LEED Silver certification through the U.S. Green Building Council. Included in this 20,000 square foot center is a commercial kitchen for serving Meals on Wheels patrons, a large multi-purpose area, and fitness, art, and game rooms. The 4,400 square foot facility at Millbrook Exchange Park includes large and small multi-purpose rooms, a community kitchenette, as well as office and support areas.
