Governor James G. Martin Building Project

Governor James G. Martin Building

Raleigh, NC

Client North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services

HH Architecture designed the Governor James G. Martin Building, a 9,500 square foot meeting facility at the NC State Fairgrounds. The building was designed to serve a multitude of purposes, with a large daylit porch adjacent to an indoor meeting space that increases the rentable area. The Martin building is a “gateway” to the main fairgrounds campus, recognizable as a landmark for those entering the Fairgrounds and for lost families during the Fair itself.

The design process included analysis of pedestrian traffic at both fair and non-fair times. The porch becomes a central nexus – both a gathering place and a respite from the crowds.
